Anuva Kakkar: Early Life

Anuva Kakkar is a 25-year-old woman 🌟 born and raised in Agra in a middle-class family. Her father is a small businessman, and her mother is a retired bank employee. She has a younger brother who is still studying.

Anuva graduated in business administration from Banasthali University in 2019, where she gained knowledge about managing businesses.

In the pitch on Shark Tank India, she shared that she decided to become an entrepreneur during her college days. She started something in college but faced failure. πŸ˜“

However, she continued to learn more about the D2C business model, including how D2C businesses are structured, how they operate, and various strategies for their growth. πŸ“šπŸ’Ό

After completing her education, she worked as a content writer at AglaSem.

Also, she took on the role of Freelance Marketing Manager at HustlePost Academy. πŸ’‘πŸš€

Birth Of Tiggle

When Anuva Kakkar was in her twenties, living in Gurgaon and working a full-time job as a content creator, life was decent. 😊

But she wanted to do something of her own, she desired to experiment, create a product, and generate employment.

On a September afternoon in 2019, while walking with a friend on a street in Delhi, Anuva had an idea to start a chain of food carts.πŸŒπŸ”

They were curious about the business model of the existing ice cream sellers on the streets, so Anuva spoke to them to learn more about how they operated and earned money.

This sparked an interest in creating a product as popular as ice cream, so Anuva began to research more online. This led to the birth of the idea of starting a food company. πŸͺ

One day she craved hot chocolate and realized there were only a few cafes in Gurgaon selling it but at a very high price. β˜•

Anuva saw an opportunity to make delicious hot chocolate more accessible and affordable. πŸ’‘

To validate the demand, she came up with the idea of selling hot chocolate to strangers to check if this idea would work or not. πŸ›’

She purchased a huge 5-liter steel jar, 3 liters of milk, and everything else needed to prepare her hot chocolate. πŸ₯›

She went to her friend’s kitchen, and the action had begun! 🍫

She wanted to sell her hot chocolate to unknown people outside the Gurgaon railway station rather than to her friends, so she could receive honest feedback.

She decided that if she managed to sell all her hot chocolate there, she would continue with this idea; otherwise, she would revise her plan, add something new, and start again. πŸš€

However, when she prepared the hot chocolate, filled the jar, and reached the station, she was stopped by security in the metro station on her way to the selling spot. πŸš‡

Upon seeing her innocent face and inspecting the jar, they allowed her to enter and sell her chocolate. 😊

Needing a place to sell her hot chocolate, she approached various shop owners in Gurgaon, but they all refused except for one biryani shop owner who allowed her to sell her hot chocolate in their small space. πŸͺ

In just 52 minutes, she sold out, and people loved it. πŸŽ‰

Encouraged by the positive response, she decided to pursue something even bigger. πŸ’ͺ

She teamed up with farmers from a small farm in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, to get the best cocoa in India for making super tasty hot chocolate, so they could make regular money for their families. 🌱

Their hot chocolate is vegan, and they don’t put in any chemicals. 🌿

Everything was going well until March 25, 2020, when lockdown forced her to shut down everything. During this time, she returned to her hometown, Agar, and engaged in freelance work. πŸ“…

After rethinking her business plan during the lockdown, Anuva relaunched her online presence in January 2021, starting as a D2C brand. πŸ’»

With just a 20,000 investment, she has now generated a 1 crore business. πŸ’°

Shark Tank Success: Anuva Kakkar’s Journey

Anuva Kakkar said they have a dream wall in their working space where they write dreams and goals for the company. She mentioned that they also wrote β€œwe will become a part of Shark Tank India,” and it became a reality for her. 🌟

All the Sharks love her pitch and appreciate her.

Anuva asked the Sharks for an investment of 50 lakh rupees in exchange for giving them a 5% ownership (equity) of her business. πŸ’°

Two of the Sharks, Amit Jain and Peyush, were interested in making a deal with her. 🦈

Amit Jain offered her 20 lakh rupees for a 5% ownership and an additional 30 lakh rupees as a loan with a 15% interest rate for 3 years. πŸ’Ό

Peyush Bansal made a different offer, proposing to invest 50 lakh rupees for a larger ownership stake of 20%, and he also wanted a 1% royalty until they recoup 1 crore rupees. πŸ‘‘

Later, Amit joined Peyush’s offer, increasing the royalty to 2%. Anuva tried to negotiate for a lower ownership stake (15%), but Peyush wasn’t willing to agree. 🀝

In the end, they struck a deal with Peyush and Amit investing 50 lakh rupees in exchange for a 20% ownership and a 2% royalty until they recoup 1 crore rupees from the business. πŸ“ˆ
